More Information About Panorama Village, Texas
History
Panorama Village is located in Montgomery County, Texas. It is located just north of Conroe. Its history comes out of Conroe’s history. In 1968, the Bamwood Development Company purchased the land the town sits on. The goal was to make a residential community surrounding a country club. The developers built the Panorama Golf Club and then built residential subdivisions surrounding it. A year after its completion, the residents purchased the golf club and the town became independent of the developers. In 1972, the community was incorporated.
The history of Conroe dates back much further. It got its start in 1881 as a sawmill on Stewart’s Creek. The sawmill’s location near the creek and the International-Great Railroad’s Houston Crocket Line provided multiple avenues for lumber to be shipped. Conroe very quickly became a shipping center for the entire region. Conroe was able to grow because of this and soon became Montgomery County’s largest city.
The population of the community expanded dramatically during the late 19th and early 20 th centuries. This all slowed due to the Great Depression, which had a significant impact on the lumber industry. Luckily, George W. Strake found oil just south of town, which ushered in the oil boom that has still defined the region. It was this growth that allowed for developments like Panorama Village to take place.
Today
The population today is about 2,200 people. The residents of the town officially have Conroe addresses because of its close proximity. Conroe’s population is about 64,000. Interstate 45’s completion connected the region to Houston and once this happened the area’s independent growth connected with the massive expansion of Houston. This in turn created a perfect scenario for industry, economic, and population growth. Today, the region is one of the fastest growing regions in the entire country.
Things to do
Panorama Village is located just to the southeast of Lake Conroe. This lake is a popular spot for boaters, anglers, water sport enthusiasts, and swimmers. It is a great place to be in the outdoors and an even greater place to beat the Texas heat in the summer months. The rising popularity of the Lake has changed the economies of the nearby small communities. They have become heavily focused on recreation and tourism. This means that visitors to the region have lots of small, charming towns to visit and have lunch in or shop.
Nature is a huge part of the region. Sam Houston National Forest is located just to the north and is a great place for hiking and wildlife viewing. There are numerous scenic overlooks and nature areas to choose from when visiting the forest. In addition to the national forest, the W.G. Jones State Park is located just to the south. There are also several parks in the Conroe region to choose from including Carl Barton Jr. Park, Harpers Landing Park, and Candy Cane Park.
If you can’t find what you are looking for locally, Houston is just a short drive south of Panorama Village. Houston is home to some of the country’s top retail and dining experiences, as well as entertainment venues.
