More Information About Patton Village, Texas

History

Patton Village is a tiny town located in Montgomery County, Texas. Its history is relatively new, although the history of the area is much older. The original inhabitants of the region, when Europeans arrived, were the Orcoquiza Tribe of Native Americans. These people lived in the area for centuries, thriving off of the abundance in the region. As Europeans were drawn to the region the natives were displaced over a short period of time. The Europeans were drawn to the region because of the lucrative lumber industry that was developing there.

The region’s development was based on the railroad’s expansion through the region during the 19 th century. This provided a market for the lumber industry that had taken hold in the region. This time period ushered in the first population boom in the region. Unfortunately, the Great Depression significantly impacted the lumber industry and the population boom subsided. Luckily for the region, oil was discovered shortly after the downturn. This ushered in the next population boom as prospectors and oil companies raced to the region.

It was during this time, that Patton Village was developed. The original development was started and overseen by H.L. Patton in the 1960’s. The original plan was for the community to be a bedroom community for the exploding city of Houston. Patton was able to maintain control of the development for the two decades. He eventually lost control of it though and the development has struggled to maintain control of itself since. The city council has been labeled the most “squabble prone small town in Texas” by the Dallas Morning News. It has had many officials resign or be impeached over the years including a recent mayor, Pamela Munoz in 2011.

Today

The population today is nearly 1,600 people. The community resides in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the entire country. This has not had a large impact on the population of Patton Village, but it has had an impact on much of the surrounding area. The population growth shows no sign of slowing either.

Things to do

The community is apart of a band of small communities located on Interstate 69. They are all home to small downtowns with shopping, dining, and entertainment. Visitors to the region will love the small towns and their quaint downtowns. The town is located 35 miles north of Houston and is situated firmly in the middle of the Houston – The Woodlands – Sugarland Metropolitan area. This means that there are endless things to do in the vicinity. Houston is home to top rated restaurants, nightlife, shopping, entertainment, and educational venues and it is all at your fingertips from Patton Village. As Houston’s population has exploded over the last few decades, it has become a culinary center, attracting chefs from around the country and world looking to make a name for themselves. This has made for a top tier restaurant community that is worth checking out. In addition to that, Houston is home to four professional sports teams and a famous rodeo, as well as several museums and shopping districts. No matter what you are looking for you, you will find it in the city.
